JoBeth Williams is an American actress. She has also ventured into directing. She made her Hollywood debut in the 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer. The following year, she gained wider recognition for starring in Stir Crazy. In the 1980s, she became famous for her performances in the films The Big Chill, and Teachers. She also rose to fame for playing Diane Freeling in Poltergeist and its sequel. Acclaimed for her acting, she received Emmy nominations for her roles in the TV film Adam and the miniseries Baby M. Her guest performance in the sitcom Frasier also earned her another Emmy nomination. She went on to star in the TV series The Client in 1995. She later had recurring roles in such shows as Dexter and Private Practice.
